Part of Carbon Canyon still closed

November 18th, 2008, 7:03 am by Marilyn Kalfus, real estate reporter

Register staff writer Serena Daniels has these traffic updates this morning:

Carbon Canyon Road between Valencia Avenue and Chino Hills remains closed as a result of fires that have created havoc in Yorba Linda, Brea and Anaheim Hills over the weekend and into Monday.

Only local residents will be allowed onto that corridor, said California Highway Patrol officer Denise Quesada.

Authorities did not say when the road would reopen to the public.

All freeways are open. Over the weekend, the 57 freeway closed and Metrolink’s Inland Empire-Orange County Line service was temporarily suspended.

The freeway reopened Sunday and train service resumed Monday.

Update: Latest weather, traffic and fire containment news

November 17th, 2008, 6:14 am by John Crandall, Staff Writer

Traffic

All freeways have reopened but the Brea Canyon off-ramp at the southbound 57 freeway and the Tonner off-ramp at the northbound 57 will remain closed for an unknown amount of time, California Highway Patrol officials say.

Service on the Metrolink’s Inland Empire-Orange County and Antelope Valley lines is running on schedule this morning, officials from the commuter line say.

Metrolink crews inspected signals and tracks and have not found any damage from this past weekend’s fires.

Passengers may experience minor delays from freight train congestion on the Inland Empire-Orange County line.

On the Antelope Valley line, which passes the Sylmar and San Fernando areas, passengers might experience delays from fire-related power or communications outages, officials say.

O.C. Register staff writer Niyaz Pirani reports from the Irvine fire command:

Fire containment

“It’s been going really well. Crews have been hitting hot spots and flare-ups but no real major fire activity overnight, no losses,” said Capt. Greg McKeown of the Orange County Fire Authority.

“The containment numbers should grow by this morning and the amount of acreage will go up slightly more,” McKeown said.

Weather

“The humidity will be a little higher, the temperature will be a little more mild than it has been and the winds are going to be much less so that definitely helps our efforts,” McKeown said.
